Day two of the People’s Postal Summit covered the fightback against privatization of our public services, as well as the hot issue of postal banking. Our moderator for the day was Chastity Murphy of The Appeal.
Donald Cohen (In The Public Interest), author of The Privatization of Everything: How the Plunder of Public Goods Transformed America and How We Can Fight Back spoke about the fight against privatization – whose interest privatization is in and why it is so important that we fight back against it.
The second session was a panel on postal financial services. Our panel, Raúl Carrillo (Yale Law School/Labor & Political Economy), Rakim Brooks (ACLU) and Porter McConnell (Take On Wall Street), focused on what is postal banking, why it would help both the post office and underbanked communities – especially black, indigenous and communities of color – as well as how we can effectively campaign for postal banking.
Tomorrow (Thursday March 18, 2021) will be the final day of this three-day event. It’s not too late to register for the session, which will focus on the crucial role of the Postal Service in securing our democratic rights and vibrant communities.
