People’s Postal Summit

Making of the People’s Postal Agenda

A Grand Alliance has fought to stop post office closures, restore postal service standards, stop job cuts at the post office and, most recently, to successfully defend against overt attempts to privatize the Postal Service.

Now we must create an agenda for the future of the Postal Service that serves our communities with expanded and enhanced services. We will also identify what obstacles stand in our way and define the policy objectives we must meet to build the Postal Service we all deserve. This summit will be the first step in developing what we are calling The People’s Postal Agenda.

The Future of Our Public Postal Service:
Capitol Hill Briefing

On July 26, 2018 — Postal Heritage Day — A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill. A distinguished panel joined us for a discussion of postal service finances, why privatization is the wrong approach, and the recently-introduced bi-partisan H. Res. 993 which expresses “the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress should take all appropriate measures to ensure that the United States Postal Service remains an independent establishment of the Federal Government and is not subject to privatization.”

A New Vision for the U.S. Postal Service

A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service is excited to announce the release of our report – The Future of the U.S. Postal Service – a culmination of community field hearings. Read the testimony of postal customers, workers, community and faith leaders, academics and many more who showed up to take a stand for the future of our public Postal Service.

Field Hearings

A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service came together to take a stand against
unprecedented assaults on our public Postal Service. Corporate interests are aimed at undermining public services across the country, and the Postal Service is no exception. We are working to bring these issues to light in communities around the country.

In 2016, we organized field hearings which were an opportunity to present and examine postal issues that are important to the public, including mail delivery delays, longer hours at post offices, staffing at retail windows, and protection of six-day and door-to-door delivery.

The field hearings explored how the Postal Service can adapt to thrive in the digital age, when people expect to receive information and deliveries even more quickly. Ideas for new services include financial services (postal banking) and access to high-speed Internet service. The U.S. Postal Service belongs to the American people. Let’s ensure that it remains a vibrant, public Postal Service for generations to come!
